RON DISON – WEALTH MANAGEMENT – WON FIRST PLACE
By Stephen A Duncan
I received an e-mail from one of my personal and very close friends, Ron Dison. Most of you won’t know the name Ron Dison unless you do business with Ron. Ron owns and runs Dison Wealth Management in Indianapolis. I met Ron through his wife, Linda.
The story goes like this, most of my career I was a mortgage banker. After 30 years of doing the same thing over and over we all get to the point where we say to ourselves, “Isn’t there something else I can do in this world?” So after a domestic fall out, I found myself living alone and I felt I needed to get away from myself. Yes, I know, I have often heard the phrase, “Everywhere you go, there you are.” Or have you ever said to someone, “I need to get away.” I told my dear mother that one day and she said, “What is it you are trying to get away from?” I still needed, or is that, wanted a change of scenery if nothing else.
So, I sent a resume to a company that needed a public speaker. The job was listed as a weight loss company. They needed a public speaker to cover Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. They responded to my resume with, “We want an audition tape.” I then received a call. The owner of the company came to Indianapolis and we talked. After a year of being on the road 5 nights a week talking weight loss to a room of 75 round women, I said to myself, “Isn’t there something else I can do in this world?”

I then decided I wanted to drive a motor coach. I thought it would be fun to see the country and enjoy the people on the tour bus. I joined the respected firm of The Free Enterprise System. I found most of the trips were kids going to Chicago to the museums, or bands traveling to places like Carnegie Hall in New York City. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. After three years of driving motor coach I said to myself, “Isn’t there something else I can do in this world?”
Someone suggested I drive a school bus. I rejected the idea right away! Drive a school bus, me? No way! As the summer continued, I reluctantly went to the school and asked to talk to management. I found myself talking to very firm Fran Miller. Fran Miller is somewhat vertically challenged, but her energy and enthusiasm are pedal to the metal. She is a hard nosed cookie, but seemed fair. She pressed me and wouldn’t take no for an answer. “Give it a try,” she said. Notice she didn’t say I would like it… she said, “Give it a try.”
On my first day behind the wheel, I met school bus driver, Linda Dison. We were parked at the school waiting for students to come out of the building. Linda walked from her bus to my bus and introduced herself. We talked for a few minutes and that began a long friendship. She soon invited me to her dinner parties and that is when I met, Ron, her husband.

Back then I was riding a Honda 1500 Gold Wing motorcycle and realized Ron was also enthusiastic about motorcycles. In conversation over dinner, I found out both Ron and Linda rode and enjoyed extended motorcycle trips. As the years and the dinner parties passed, I was aware Ron was restoring a 1972 bike he owned for years.

Ron started restoring his 1972 Honda CB750, “Phaedrus”, back in 2008 and for the last 5-6 years he has restored the bike like new. I think they call what Ron is doing an off frame restoration. I was at Ron’s home for one of their famous dinner parties when he invited the group at the dinner table out to the garage to see his progress.

Linda and Ron just returned from Spring Mill State Park, Indiana, where they attended the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club National Rally. The Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club (VJMC) is the premier worldwide club dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and enjoyment of vintage motorcycles. Thousands of members enjoy the benefits offered by the VJMC, including their magazine dedicated to vintage motorcycling, one of the most highly regarded vintage motorcycle publications in the world. Ron told me his motorcycle, the 1972 Honda CB750, “Phaedrus”, received first place in the “Custom Bike” category.

Say hello to BRUCE CAMPBELL Bo-Builder along with Ron in bringing this restoration to a winning end.
Congratulations to my friend Ron Dison and his Co-Builder Bruce Campbell! After six years of dedicated work in his garage under summer and winter conditions (Last winter was a bear using just a small space heater) plus his personal commitment to work 5 hours at a time in order to complete the task, no one can possibly imagine the amount of persistence and dedication Ron has put forth. My hat goes off to Ron, and I don’t even wear a hat! See progress from beginning to end HERE.
It isn’t hard to understand Ron’s personal work ethic which is defined in his company statement.
