GARAGE GUYS – MICK AND DEB HOLIDAY HOUSE PARTY
By Stephen A Duncan
When I first moved to Magnolia Landing, I went down to the fitness center by the front gate and Larry was in the building working on the machines, too. Larry introduced himself and said, “I don’t think we have met.” I told him I was from Indianapolis and brand new to the area. Larry suggested I might want to attend a Garage Guys meeting. It’s held every Wednesday at someone’s home. Bring a lawn chair and your drink of choice and look for a lot of cars in front of a home on Wednesday afternoon between 4 – 6 PM. Once there ask to be placed on the Garage Guys master E-mail List and then you will receive an e-mail each week as to where the meeting is going to be held.

Well, I did as Larry suggested and started attending the Garage Guys. This may sound like a somewhat formal meeting if you are not aware. What I discovered was, someone opens their garage door, cleans their garage, puts a card table in the middle of the garage and places a bowl of potato chips on the card table. The male homeowners from Magnolia Landing show up with their lawn chairs and a small cooler. They sit in the garage in a circle and talk about everything from soup to nuts. It worked. I have made some very interesting new friends. Michael Rodery is one of the more flamboyant personalities at the Garage Guys meeting. It’s hard not to miss Michael. I know his friends also called him Mick, or Mic.

With the holiday season in full swing I have been invited to some very nice house parties. Mr. Michael Rodery along with his wife, Deb, opened their home, and invited a lot of very nice Magnolia Landing people for a holiday Party Friday night. Mick wanted to get to know as many people in Magnolia Landing as possible. “We hope everyone can stop by and make some new friends.”
Because we’re living in South West Florida and, it is also the Holiday time of year, a lot of residents come down from the north they open their homes for the winter, then head back for Christmas and maybe New Year’s celebrations with family and friends. After Christmas they get on a plane and come back to South West Florida and stay till about Easter.
I don’t know everyone who attended the party Friday night, but here is a limited list.
David and Denise Allan, Jim & Crockett, Lynn Lebida, Tom and Krissy Stoicevich, Mary Hanson, Art and Beatrice Zarraro, Hal Nance, Monica Young, Jane Linn, Sally Schuerman, Charlotte Dearborn, Sue Streeter, Sharon and Bobby Yoxall, Jack and Dee Steffens
Sending regrets were: Ron and Sheila Kaighin, Lisa Boudreaux, Carol Adams, Margaret Mccover, David & Eileen Lemelin, Judy Croft, Patricia Carter, Becky Smith, Tim & Karen Hoffmann, Peggy Adams.
